Inspired careers... Newsletter Issue 1
Hello and welcome to the first issue of Career Wisdom’s Newsletter.
This monthly missive aims to inform and provoke thought, inspiration and hopefully, action! It is dedicated to you and your career satisfaction.
Feature Article – Your Environment

This month, the focus is on your work environment. When you think of your work, does the environment you work in help you to be focussed on your tasks and even inspire your actions? Or – does it drag you down and make you want to escape?!
In the past, I used to visit many different work areas and offices. It was always interesting to me how some were very personal and comfortable and others were cold and clinical. Even some of the tiniest work cubicles were made “homely” with photos, plants or even a little fish tank.
When I started working from home, I decided to transform my beige office into a more inspiring environment. I repainted (one wall is now purple!) and put up a pin-up board for my daughter’s artwork and a magnetic whiteboard. I also have a lovely big cushion in the corner of the room, next to my CD player for “working relaxation”
What is your working environment like? How could you incorporate some comforts and passions around you (even if your work involves being mobile, what could you incorporate in your bag, or even carry in your pocket?) Challenge – this week, make one improvement to your environment. Feel free to email me and tell me what you changed and the difference it made.
Riveting Resources:
Po Bronson’s book “What Should I Do With My Life? – The True Story of People Who Answered the Ultimate Question” is a great read for those who are pondering this thought for themselves, or in the business of supporting and helping others. Po’s own story is quite illuminating and inspiring, as he trained as a lawyer, but ended up a writer, with some amusing entrepreneurial ventures along the way. The book is a compilation of stories of real people - he interviewed and conducted research around the globe. Check out Po’s site at www.pobronson.com
Facts and Stats:
John Crocher, Professor of Statistics at Macquarie University found that 88% of Australians are not truly satisfied with the work they are doing; 75% said they wanted to spend more time with their families and 75% felt they worked too hard.
